This is a unique book and I’m not entirely sure what category or genre it belongs in. Let me summarize by saying it is thoroughly entertaining and can be enjoyed on many different levels provided one has a sense of humor. Wiggins is an extremely funny guy but also offers his unique insight into several facets of life.

I’m not into poetry, but bought this book because I read his very funny book, Grit, about his life as a cabbie. But his poem (and I use the term loosely as it doesn’t rhyme) “The Dawn Maiden and the West Wind” had memories of my Navy days come flooding back. He hit upon an enjoyable time in my life with mere words woven into beautiful thoughts.

He then moves into comparisons and contrasts with food and writing. It was some brilliant, thought-provoking writing. Then he moved into giving us glimpses of he himself. I felt like a got to know him a little better.

This is an easy read yet gets the mind stimulated and can lead to some deep thinking if one so wishes. Class writing by a top-notch, and sometimes controversial, author. I loved it.
I do not know this author personally, but through his writings ascertain Karl Wiggins can best be described as a 'rough around the edges' raconteur who shoots straight from the hip. No matter the topic, I've found all of his work entertaining as all get out. Each novel, non-fiction, or book of prose is unique, and from the number of books under his hat, staying unique is inherent with Wiggins.
Words are our Sorcery doesn't seem to have a particular genre, because I feel it is much more than poems as he delves into such a variety of issues that prove to be food for thought. Wiggins offers glimpses into his personal life, which are sometimes controversial, but in the words of Emmy winning comic Louie CK, "Every time you say something that is offensive to another person, you just caused a conversation. You just forced them to have to THINK." This is just one of many reasons I enjoy the writing of Wiggins. Seems his friends know exactly where they stand with him, as he will tell you how he feels to your face, not behind the back.

Somehow, deep down, I believe Wiggins is a kind-hearted SOB who will defend those he trusts till the dying end.
I loved this book. Initially I thought it was going to be a collection of poetry, but there's more! Toward the end of the book you'll find vignettes of thought-provoking prose. The poems in the earlier part of the book are all very lovely, and I found myself hanging on every word. I had known of Mr. Wiggins' humor, but not of his compassion and grace. What a great read!
