Olivia Twist Blink Lorie Langdon Books
My only problem with this book is the branding. I loved this reinvention of the characters from Oliver Twist. I haven't read the original but I know the basic storyline and am familiar with the main characters. I loved the plot, the characters, the fantastic writing. And I loved the swoony romance between Olivia and Jack. But that is also where my problem with how this is marketed begins. There is mild swearing by a few of the characters, many suggestions at being intimate or having been, and in one particular scene some heavy kissing takes place which leads to outer clothing being removed and for a few paragraphs, I wasn't sure the character would escape with her virtue in tact. (Mostly because of many suggestions leading up to this). My YA preferences would cause me to hesitate recommending this for high school teens. But comparatively to other secular YA, this may be squeaky clean. I'd prefer a New Adult label personally. That being said, I think adults would love this too, especially if you like historical romance. I loved the strong connection between the two main characters and I understood immediately why they were drawn to each other. I felt the chemistry and sparks which at first seems like just physical attraction but is rooted in something deeper. A mutual understanding from their past history and a mutual need to belong somewhere. So despite my average star rating (only because I have some objections to the clean tag,and believe other like-minded parents would too) this would be a re-read for me. I look forward to revisiting Olivia and Jack's tale and am glad I purchased my own copy for just such a purpose.Tags : Amazon.com: Olivia Twist (Blink) (9780310763413): Lorie Langdon: Books,Lorie Langdon,Olivia Twist (Blink),Blink,031076341X,Historical - Europe,Romance - Clean & Wholesome,Romance - Historical,Historical fiction,London (England) - Social life and customs - 19th century,London (England);Social life and customs;19th century;Fiction.,Orphans,Orphans;Fiction.,Street life - England - London - 19th century,Street life;England;London;19th century;Fiction.,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 7-9),England,Fiction-Romance,Historical Fiction (Young Adult),JUVENILE,Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile Grades 7-9 Ages 12-14,London (England) - Social life and customs - 19th century,London (England);Social life and customs;19th century;Fiction.,Monograph Series, any,Orphans,Orphans;Fiction.,Romance - Clean & Wholesome,Romance - Historical,Street life - England - London - 19th century,Street life;England;London;19th century;Fiction.,TEEN'S FICTION HISTORICAL,TEEN'S FICTION ROMANCE,TOPICAL Teen,United States,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Historical Europe,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Historical United States 19th Century,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Romance Clean & Wholesome,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Romance Historical,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Thrillers & Suspense,Young Adult FictionHistorical - United States - 19th Century,Young Adult FictionRomance - Clean & Wholesome,Young Adult FictionThrillers & Suspense, romance; historical romance; YA historical romance; young adult historical romance; YA fiction; young adult fiction; YA romance; young adult romance; teen; teen fiction; teen historical romance; Victorian; Oliver Twist; London; East End; debutante; Artful Dodger; high society; 1860s; the ton; orphans; retellings; clean teen; clean teen fiction; England; Saffron Hill; Monks; Artful Dodger; Fagin; poverty; social class; English novels; Victorian novels; 19th-century novels, romance; historical romance; YA historical romance; young adult historical romance; YA fiction; young adult fiction; YA romance; young adult romance; teen; teen fiction; teen historical romance; Victorian; Oliver Twist; London; East End; debutante; Artful Dodger; high society; 1860s; the ton; orphans; retellings; clean teen; clean teen fiction; England; Saffron Hill; Monks; Fagin; poverty; social class; English novels; Victorian novels; 19th-century novels,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Historical Europe,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Historical United States 19th Century,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Romance Clean & Wholesome,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Romance Historical,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Thrillers & Suspense,Young Adult FictionHistorical - United States - 19th Century,Young Adult FictionRomance - Clean & Wholesome,Young Adult FictionThrillers & Suspense,Historical Fiction (Young Adult),YOUNG ADULT FICTION,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 7-9)
Olivia Twist Blink Lorie Langdon Books Reviews
Bumbles!!! I have a new book to put on my forever favorite shelf! Olivia Twist, by Lorie Langdon has me over the edge of happiness right now. I LOVE historical fiction! It’s my go to genre. However, when it’s a new, well written spin on an old classic my heart skips a beat! “Ollie” had grown up on the streets when she was young under the watchful eye of The Artful Dodger! As the story unfolds, “Ollie (who is actually Olivia) is now a young lady of society living in her Uncle’s home. One night, she has a run in with a Jack and the rest as they say is history. I absolutely adored this story. The references to Oliver Twist were so much fun and Olivia is a fun, strong young lady to read about. Victorian London has my heart and I loved being able to vividly picture some of the key scenes in this novel. I had so much fun reading this. I went back and researched London during this time period and waxed so nostalgic that I re-read some bits of Oliver Twist. Although this is categorized as a YA novel, I think it will be fun for older readers as well. I love getting lost in a historical fiction and romance novel. This is going down as one of my all time favorites! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 from me for being so much fun!
Olivia Twist was completely enchanting and it was everything I expected. Jack and Olivia were both characters that I loved right from the beginning. Olivia was brave but she was also scared and that made her realistic. The setting of the book was one of the main things I loved about it. Everything was so descriptive which made it easy for me to picture the scenes. Any scenes that Jack and Olivia were in together were great. They have this witty banter that makes it so much fun to see their relationship grow and become more than their dependence and friendship as children on the street was. Jack is someone that has flaws and has always made his living as a thief. But the writing and his personality still managed to persuade me to love him and see things as he would have growing up on the streets of London. Also, the way Olivia cared for the orphans and her will to do whatever was necessary for them made me immediately like her.
It's exciting and captivating and the second I finished it I wanted to read it all over again.
I’m a pretty avid historical fiction reader, so this book was right up my alley. I honestly haven’t found a lot of YA (young adult) historical fiction that I’ve enjoyed, though. They seem to be either slow paced or dull. Olivia Twist is neither of those things, in fact it will suck you in within the first chapter, and it doesn’t even let you go once you’ve finished the book! When I closed the book, I let out a sad sigh because I knew it was a stand alone and I want more (read that last part like Ariel sings it).
Character development is great and the world building is phenomenal. While reading, I felt like I was there, walking the streets with Olivia, hiding, helping her lost boys. I slowly fell in love with Jack as Olivia found herself spending more time with him.
Lorie Langdon has created an amazing book that will transport you back to the London of gas lamps, old street gangs, high society, petticoats and parasols. My only regret was reading the book so fast - I wish I would have savored it more!
If I hadn't heard good things about this book first, I would not have read it because I disliked the first Doon book. But, Olivia Twist? Wow, history, adventure, romance, and mystery done well. Kept me turning the pages and made me laugh, too. Makes me want see Oliver! and read Oliver Twist.
I especially appreciated the rich words the author uses. I daresay folks might learn a new word or two.
For parents wondering, there is some sexual tension and kisses, but nothing more. (Spolier Alert She continues to see and kiss Jack while engaged to Max, but she realizes this is wrong and stops.)
This book is amazing. I have been stuck in a slump of not being able to read anything besides textbooks during college, and this has gotten me out of it in a massive way. I heard about this from friends who were reading an advance copy, and decided to pre-order because it just looked that good. And it did not disappoint in any way. Romance, mystery, and adventure all bundled into one beautiful package. I am a fan of musical theatre as well, and was very happy to see this book was inspired partly by the musical Oliver. This made me love it even more! I cannot wait to read the Doon series by Lorie Langdon now. I am thrilled o have found an exciting new author and cannot wait for more from her.
