A Night to Surrender Spindle Cove Tessa Dare 9780062049834 Books

A lovely romp! Although the characters may not have been as well developed as one would like, and perhaps the sex scenes were too early and too often, the main characters' thoughts and feelings were well handled -- enough to understand the characters, but not wallowing in their thought processes. Surprisingly good accounts of medical practices at the time but I have no idea if the ball and chain episode is based on historical fact. It is rooted in practical medical theory and plausible within the story line. The story's setting is creative, the atmosphere is mostly light-hearted and the sheep -- the sheepherding scene is delightful! On second thought, considering the sheep scenes, the characters are probably developed just right - this is excellent entertainment.

A Night to Surrender Spindle Cove Tessa Dare 9780062049834 Books Reviews

I enjoyed A Night to Surrender, but not as much as other Tessa Dare books I've read. Although, the series itself does seem to have promise, so I will definitely be continuing. My main problem with A Night to Surrender is that I wasn't a huge fan of Bram, our hero. He went insta-lovely a bit too fast for me and usually I can forgive that with historical romances, but it didn't work for me here. I really enjoyed most of the side characters though, especially Minerva. I'm very excited that her book is book two and I can't wait to start reading that one!
owe two big hugs to Tessa Dare. I admit I read the Spindle Cove series backwards. The first Tessa Dare book I have ever read "Any Duchess Will Do" book 4. was purchased in a fundraising "Bazaar" for the local humane society several years ago. I had not read any of her books and the exorbitant price of 25 cents seemed a reasonable gamble. Not only did I enjoy the book, and the entire concept of Spindle Cove but after a great deal of frustration searching thrift shops, resale shops, yard sale and fundraising book sales all in vain to locate other works, a friend told me to try and its now my own personal library resource; lthe second hug due Ms Dare.
Having read the last of the series with its references to events after the time of the first three volumes did nothing to diminish the reading of the first volumes except to satisfy instant gratification for the next installments, a circumstance of this volume since it took me several months after reading volumes 2 and 3 to find it offered by my favorite seller.
The book itself, sets up the circmstances, characters and settings for Spindle Cove but without overpowering the reader with too any characters yet providing enough information about several to make guessing who the next volume would be about a bit of a challenge. The time period is latter days of the Napoleonic wars, the central female role is one of only several permanent residents of the seaside village and the obvious social arbitrator. The central male role is a newly titled millitary officer, recovering from wounds who must set up local militia defenses for the cove.
The writer skillfully plays the strong blue-stocking social abritrator off of the spiritually as well as figuratvely wounded military commander who will broke no challenge until at times a hanky is necessary-not to sigh into but to laugh into. And yes I would suggest finding all four volumes if you haven't already, before starting the first one, because waiting to find the next installment would try the patience of Job. Enjoy. I hope she writes Sally's story.
The draw for this book is the characters of Miss Finch and Bram, the new lord of ruined castle. The plot follows a fairly predictable romance formula, the sex is graphic, the side characters only partially developed. Bram’s cousin is mostly a stereotypical English playboy viscount, interested mainly in himself. The loyal corporal Thorne could be a bull mastiff, except he talks.
But the characters of Miss Finch and Bram and their war of wits, repartee are what makes the story. Miss Finch seems to have some more modern ideas than might have been expected of the period, and Bram’s approach to proposal seems a bit out of period also. But watching the relationship develop and the dialogue exchanges makes it an enjoyable romp, though the outcome was obvious and never in serious doubt.
Okay, everyone. I just started Ms. Dare's second book in her Spindle Cove series and just HAD to jump back here (Book One) to send off a review. This author is so very talented! I just LOVE her writing! (The honesty between the H--Bram--and h --Susanna, the "snarky" banter which is so much fun, the believable storyline , Ms. Dare's ability to make me feel as though I am actually there--in the story with the residents of this little community, .... I could go on and on!) For those who wish to know, there are some sexual steamy scenes, but they aren't as overdone as in other books. Based on the reviews of others, I took a gamble and bought the entire series all at once. Let me just say I AM SO GLAD I DID! I highly, HIGHLY recommended this series! It is so much fun!!!! Now back to the third chapter in her second book!
